Welcome to a world where things aren't quite what they seem and things go bump in the night....as spirits guide you through life and the journey of the tarot arcana.
With all joking aside, tarot is there to be used as a tool and is nothing to be feared. It can offer comfort on our darker days and a way to obtain insight into any given situation, offering a way to look deeply into our state of being and guidance on what inner work needs to be done.
If you haven't worked with tarot before, they are a great tool to aid your spiritual path and growth, so without further ado lets take a closer look at this particular deck.
A Christmas Tarot by Dinah Roseberry offers a new twist on tarot, focusing on the 22 cards of the major arcana and the works of Charles Dickens; A Christmas Carol.
They are beautifully woven with the story of the major arcana, encompassing the journey through life in many stages of growth we have come to expect from the major arcana.
As mentioned this deck comprises of only the major arcana, which fits nicely with the structure and meanings provided by Dinah Roseberry and imagery created by Christine "Kesara" Dennett.
Each card has a meaning for past, present and future making them ideal for a quick three card spread, much like an oracle deck but covers the bigger life changing events, they are perfect for the seasoned reader and novice alike.
Card spreads are also included towards the end of the accompanying booklet, should you wish to try something more in-depth.
As you might imagine, this deck has been designed to be used as an oracle deck as well, much like the three card spread for past, present and future.
Each card features a keyword, giving those still new to tarot a gentle nudge to look more closely at the cards to obtain more information intuitively. There are also channeled Christmas Angel messages included in the booklet for each card, adding a lovely touch to these cards.
Although there are no predetermined reversal meanings in this deck, you can intuitively build your own meanings to any reversals should you wish to. And guidance is provided in the booklet on how to do this.
The booklet also provides a sample reading to help you get to grips with how the cards have been designed to be used by Dinah Roseberry, which helps with a basic understanding when first getting to know this deck.
The imagery of this deck works closely with spirits and ghosts, these can be seen as aspects of the self or shadow self, to bring our attention to our fears that maybe holding us back or to offer words of caution.
If you use tarot for journaling and inner child or shadow work, this could be a lovely deck to use for this purpose.
As previously mentioned, each card has a past, present and future meaning. Below you can find the meanings for the High Priestess:
Past
This card could reflect the cycles of life. You've been on a path and you've had the knowledge (buried, but still there) that forward movement was about allowing yourself time to listen to your heart. You've always known that you were where you were for a good reason, even if you were uncomfortable at times.
Present
Look closely at the situation. You've moved into this spot purposely, and now you have had (or soon will have) a psychic knowing that will put you on solid ground. Listen! If you miss the cue, you could bring a negative twist to your future.
Future
The future is bright for this question - that is if you've listened to your own intuition. If you've allowed yourself to be subjugated, stop and stand up. Rethink things! If you are on the right path, you already know it. Keep cycling. Keep your doors open.
Conclusion
These are beautifully presented tarot cards, which come in a well thought-out box with ribbon supports for when the box is open, magnetic closure and a 96 page booklet.
The cards themselves have unique illustrations the likes of which I haven't seen before, the paper stock is sturdy yet flexible if slightly thinner than decks I've handled in the past.
They would make a great first deck for anyone who loves Christmas, A Christmas Carol or even as a Christmas gift, even a seasoned reader could get a lot of enjoyment from them.
An all round enjoyable deck to work with, I know I'll be reaching for them again by Christmas if not before...
